Qatar 1-1 Switzerland: World Cup 2026 – as it happened

The 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup began on June 11, featuring 104 matches across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. In Group B, Qatar and Switzerland drew 1-1 at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium. Qatar, the reigning AFC Asian Cup holders, earned their first point of the tournament with a goal by Boualem Khoukhi in injury time. The teams are joined in the group by Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina, who drew their opening match on Friday. In Group D, the United States defeated Paraguay 4-1 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on Friday. The U.S. Took an early lead in the 7th minute following an own goal by Paraguayan midfielder Damián Bobadilla. Folarin Balogun scored twice for the U.S., first in the 31st minute and again in first-half stoppage time. Winger Gio Reyna added a fourth goal in the 79th minute. Paraguay’s Mauricio scored a goal in the 73rd minute. The U.S. Victory marked the first time an American player scored multiple goals in a World Cup match since 1930. According to NBC News, Balogun chose to represent the U.S. Over England in 2023. Christian Pulisic, who assisted on the first goal, was substituted at halftime. The U.S. Team, led by head coach Mauricio Pochettino, will face Australia in Seattle on June 19 and Turkey in Inglewood on June 25. Other tournament highlights include Mexico’s 2-0 win over South Africa and a 1-1 draw between Brazil and Morocco. Argentina, the defending champions, are scheduled to begin their tournament against Algeria on Wednesday. The group stage is scheduled to run until June 27, with the knockout stage beginning on June 28.
