San Antonio Spurs’ 150-mile rule unlikely to box Knicks fans out of NBA Finals Game 5

The New York Knicks hold a 3-1 lead heading into Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs. The Knicks are seeking their first championship in 53 years, having recently completed the largest comeback in NBA Finals history in Game 4, rallying from 29 points down to win 107-106. The Spurs have led each of the four games played so far by double figures, but lost three of them. Concerns have circulated regarding a 150-mile rule implemented by the Spurs for tickets sold through Ticketmaster. The policy warns that purchases made with credit cards with billing addresses outside of 150 miles from the Frost Bank Center will be canceled and refunded. The Spurs stated the policy remains in place to prioritize local fans from San Antonio, Austin, and surrounding communities. However, the Spurs also noted that the location of the original purchaser does not always reflect who attends the game because tickets may be transferred or resold through various channels. New York Governor Kathy Hochul expressed concern on X Saturday morning, stating that thousands of fans booked flights and made plans in good faith and calling for the Spurs and Ticketmaster to reverse the decision. In response, Madison Square Garden Sports released a statement on Saturday afternoon confirming with Spurs ownership that they will not be revoking any tickets held by Knicks fans for tonight’s game. The Spurs have also enforced a policy prohibiting the resale of tickets through unofficial platforms, threatening to revoke season-ticket memberships for those who do not use the official Ticketmaster platform. If the Spurs win tonight, Game 6 will be held in New York on Tuesday. The referees for Saturday’s game are Scott Foster, James Capers, and Tyler Ford.
