The U.S. Men’s National Team (USMNT) begins its 2026 World Cup campaign today, June 12, as the tournament returns to the United States for the first time in 32 years. The U.S. Is one of three host nations, alongside Canada and Mexico. The tournament features 48 teams and 104 matches over 39 days. The U.S. Is placed in Group D and is scheduled to play at least three group-stage matches in June. They face Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, at 9 p.m. ET today. On June 17, they face Australia at Seattle’s Lumen Field at 3 p.m. ET, followed by a match against Turkey at SoFi Stadium on June 25 at 10 p.m. ET. The knockout stage begins June 28. If the U.S. Wins Group D, they will play July 1 at 8 p.m. ET in Santa Clara, California; if they finish as runners-up, they will play July 3 at 2 p.m. ET in Dallas. The round of 16 is scheduled for July 4 to July 7, the quarterfinals for July 9 to July 10, the semifinals on July 14, and the final on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The squad is led by head coach Mauricio Pochettino, who took over in 2024. The roster includes captain Tim Ream, who told CBS News he has “no doubt that we could potentially win,” and stars like Christian Pulisic and Folarin Balogun. Former U.S. Player John Harkes told the BBC that the team has “better resources” and more experience in Europe’s big leagues than previous squads, though he noted that remaining healthy is critical due to recent injuries. The U.S. Reached the Round of 16 in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after failing to qualify for the 2018 tournament. While the U.S. Women’s team has won four World Cups, the men’s team’s best historical performance was a third-place finish in 1930.
