Ticketmaster says Knicks fans won't be locked out of game after last-minute panic

Ticketmaster and the San Antonio Spurs have confirmed that Knicks fans will not be locked out of Game 5 of the NBA finals in Texas. The clarification follows a period of concern after a Ticketmaster note suggested that purchases by individuals living more than 150 miles from the arena would be canceled and refunded without notice. A spokesperson for Ticketmaster stated that no tickets purchased on its platform “have or will be canceled” and that fans can be confident in receiving authenticated tickets. The Spurs also stated that while individuals with billing ZIP codes outside the designated area are unable to complete new purchases due to a geographic restriction, previously purchased tickets are not being revoked. The Spurs noted that this restriction, intended to favor local fans, has been in place since the playoffs began in April. The situation drew public scrutiny and calls for action from New York officials. Governor Kathy Hochul posted on social media that fans should be able to keep their seats, while New York Attorney General Letitia James demanded the Spurs remove the policy. Following the reassurances, James stated she was glad fans would be able to attend. Also, a representative for Madison Square Garden Sports Corp confirmed with Spurs ownership that no tickets will be revoked and all ticket holders will be allowed into Frost Bank Arena. As the Knicks move within one game of a championship, fans in New York have engaged in various rituals and communal gatherings. Some fans are performing specific religious rituals to invite positive energy, while others have burned clothing from previous games or are avoiding live broadcasts to avoid “bad luck.” The city has seen a surge in camaraderie, with many residents wearing team colors and gathering at designated locations to support the team.
