Enliven Therapeutics (ELVN) Soars on Stellar Leukemia Drug Trial

Enliven Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ:ELVN) saw its stock price rise 14.30 percent to $46.13 on Friday, following the release of encouraging results from its experimental leukemia drug, ELVN-001. According to Yahoo Finance, the first phase of the clinical trial showed that 40 percent of 161 enrolled patients achieved a major molecular response. Patients receiving an 80 mg dose showed a 48 percent response rate, while 22 to 30 percent of patients achieved deeper responses. Enliven Therapeutics Chief Medical Officer Helen Collins stated that the results reinforce the drug’s potential as a best-in-class ATP-competitive inhibitor. The company also reported reaching an alignment with the FDA regarding the 80 mg once-daily dose and the inclusion of specific patients in the planned ENABLE-2 Phase 3 trial, which is expected to initiate later this year. In separate clinical news, Agios Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq: AGIO) presented results from the 52-week double-blind period of the global RISE UP Phase 3 trial for mitapivat, an oral pyruvate kinase (PK) activator. Presented at the 31st European Hematology Association (EHA) Congress, the data focused on patients aged 16 years or older with sickle cell disease. The trial demonstrated a significant improvement in the primary endpoint of hemoglobin response compared to a placebo. New analyses from the RISE UP trial, reported by Business Insider, showed that mitapivat was associated with a 41.1% relative reduction in the proportion of patients requiring blood transfusions compared to placebo. Also, hemoglobin responders in the mitapivat arm experienced clinically meaningful reductions in pain crises, related hospitalizations, and emergency room visits. While mitapivat showed a reduction in the annualized rate of sickle cell pain crises compared to placebo, this specific primary endpoint did not reach statistical significance. No treatment-related deaths occurred during the trial.
