How will Scotland approach Morocco game after opening win?

Scotland currently tops Group C following a 1-0 opening victory over Haiti in Boston. The win, secured by a goal from John McGinn, marks Scotland’s first World Cup victory in 36 years and their first opening-match win at the tournament in 44 years. While the victory puts Scotland in a positive position, the narrow margin of win against a side ranked 83rd in the world has raised questions regarding how the team will perform against higher-ranked opponents Morocco and Brazil. Analysis of the performance suggests a potential shift in tactics for the upcoming matches. Former Scotland forward James McFadden noted that the win was a “must-win” for group progression, while former midfielder Charlie Adam emphasized the need for Scotland to be better with the ball, particularly against Morocco. Regarding formations, former skipper Scott Brown expects a move back to one striker to create a more compact midfield. However, former winger Pat Nevin suggested a shift to a back three might be necessary to counter Morocco’s speed and fluidity. The road to the knockout stages remains a primary focus. With 32 of the 48 nations expected to progress, a point against either Morocco or Brazil would almost certainly guarantee advancement. Three points could be sufficient if the goals against tally remains low. In contrast, Morocco recently drew 1-1 with Brazil. Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi stated that while the team hoped for more than a draw, they will continue “soldiering on” to improve their results in the remaining two games.
