US musician Oliver Tree dies as two helicopters crash mid-air

US musician Oliver Tree was among six people killed on Sunday when two helicopters collided over Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The aircraft collided in the western suburb of Recreio dos Bandeirantes before one fell onto a car dealership parking lot, setting approximately 20 vehicles ablaze. The Military Fire Department of the State of Rio de Janeiro reported being called to the scene around 09:00 local time. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collision. The 32-year-old Tree, known for hits such as “Life Goes On” and “Miss You,” was on a world tour at the time of the crash. According to reports, he was traveling with Argentine content creator Gaspar Prim Diaz, also known as Gaspi, along with passengers Lucas Brito Chaves, Lucas Vignale, and pilot Alexandre Souza. The second aircraft carried only a pilot, Charles Marsillac. Reports indicate the victims were badly burned and could not be formally identified immediately. Following the news, YouTuber KSI and Jackass star Steve-O paid tribute to Tree online. Tree, who rose to fame in 2016, was scheduled to perform in Lisbon on July 1 before heading to the UK in September. He was previously nominated for a Brit Award in 2024 and holds a Guinness world record for building the largest kick scooter. In a separate aviation incident, 12 people died in a plane crash in Butler, Missouri, on Sunday. A Pacific Aerospace P750, leased by a skydiving company, crashed near Butler Memorial Airport after failing to gain altitude and making a sharp left turn. The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation. While the aircraft was engulfed in flames, first responders reported that no skydivers appeared to have jumped from the plane before the impact.
