Watch World Cup Day 4: Germany routs Curacao; Netherlands draw with Japan

Sweden defeated Tunisia 5-1 on Sunday in the first fixture hosted in the Mexican city of Guadalupe, seizing control of World Cup Group F. Sweden took the lead in the seventh minute with a goal from Yasin Ayari, followed by an Alexander Isak goal in the half-hour mark. Omar Rekik added a third goal before halftime, while Ellyes Skhiri was caught in possession leading to a goal by Viktor Gyokeres in the 59th minute. Substitute Mattias Svanberg scored a fourth goal late in the match after a VAR decision ruled him onside, and Ayari added a fifth goal from outside the penalty box. In another Group F match, Morocco and Brazil played to a 1-1 draw. Ismeal Saibari scored for Morocco in the 21st minute following a transition out of trouble, while Vinicius Jr. Leveled the score for Brazil in the 32nd minute with a strike from outside the box. Morocco’s head coach, Mohamed Ouahbi, stated the team hoped for more than one point but remained optimistic about improving. Brazil’s captain, Achraf Hakimi, noted the team would learn from mistakes as they continue the tournament. Germany secured a 7-1 victory over Curaçao, the smallest country to ever appear in the tournament, in the first match held at Houston Stadium. Germany took a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute through Felix Nmecha, but Curaçao tied the game at 1-1 in the 21st minute with a goal from Livano Comenencia. Germany regained the lead in the 38th minute and scored four more goals in the second half from Kai Havertz, Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Brown, and Deniz Undav. The match featured the largest age gap between coaches in World Cup history, with Curaçao’s 78-year-old Dick Advocaat facing Germany’s 38-year-old Julian Nagelsmann. The 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup began on June 11 and features 104 matches across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Broadcasting rights for the 78 games in the U.S. Are held by FOX and NBCUniversal, while NBC-owned Telemundo and Universo will broadcast all matches in Spanish. The tournament’s group stage is scheduled to run until June 27.
