What You Didn’t See On TV: Inside the UFC Thunderdome on the White House Lawn
UFC Freedom 250 took place on Sunday, June 14, on the South Lawn of the White House. The $60 million made-for-TV spectacle was sparked by a suggestion from President Trump and executed by UFC CEO Dana White. The event featured a lineup of high-profile fighters, including Sean O’Malley, Derrick Lewis, Michael Chandler, and Bo Nickal. The card was headlined by a lightweight championship bout between Ilia Topuria and interim champion Justin Gaethje, preceded by an interim heavyweight title fight between Alex Pereira and Ciryl Gane. The event was broadcast exclusively on Paramount+, which now offers UFC content to subscribers without pay-per-view fees. Paramount+ executives, including CEO David Ellison and streaming chief Cindy Holland, were in attendance. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Department of Justice had recently cleared Ellison’s $111 billion takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery, and Paramount+ held the exclusive rights to the White House event. President Trump sat cage-side alongside Dana White and TKO CEO Ari Emanuel. Other notable attendees included Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Knicks owner Jim Dolan, and podcaster Joe Rogan. The crowd consisted of invited guests, active-duty military members, and various celebrities, including soccer player Zlatan Ibrahimović and WWE stars Paul “Triple H” Levesque and Roman Reigns. Members of the White House cabinet, such as Marco Rubio and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., were also reported to be present. The production featured live music by “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, military flyovers by fighter jets and a B-2 stealth bomber, and fireworks. The Hollywood Reporter noted that the event included commercial breaks for sponsors like Crypto.com and Ram Trucks, as well as a Bud Light commercial. During the proceedings, Trump announced a deal signed with Iran to end hostilities. The event concluded at 1:18 a.m.
