With UFC Freedom 250 at the White House, Trump Has Reached Peak ‘Idiocracy’

The UFC Freedom 250 took place on the South Lawn of the White House on Sunday, June 14. The event featured several high-profile figures in attendance, including President Donald Trump, Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Ivanka Trump, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and TKO Group Holdings CEO and executive chairman Ari Emanuel. Other notable attendees included UFC CEO Dana White, comedians Shane Gillis and Tony Hinchcliffe, country singer Alexis Wilkins, Crypto.com CEO Kris Marszalek, and boxer Tyson Fury. The fight card featured two title matches. Alex Pereira (13-3) faced Ciryl Gane (13-2, 1 NC) for the interim UFC heavyweight title, which was vacated after Gane accidentally poked Tom Aspinall’s eyes during their October fight. If Pereira wins, he will become the first UFC fighter to hold titles in three weight classes. The main event featured lightweight champion Ilia Topuria (17-0) against interim champion Justin Gaethje (25-5). Topuria last fought nearly a year ago, while Gaethje most recently secured a unanimous decision victory over Paddy Pimblett in January. Other fighters on the card included Sean O’Malley, Derrick Lewis, Michael Chandler, and Bo Nickal. Following his victory over Derrick Lewis, Josh Hokit gave an interview to Joe Rogan. According to Rolling Stone, Hokit made a statement during the interview asking, “Michelle Obama is a man. Am I right, America?” Rolling Stone reported that some members of the crowd were heard laughing while others appeared surprised by the comments. Rogan did not address the statement, simply saying, “Ladies and gentlemen, Josh Hokit.” The event was broadcast exclusively on Paramount+. Rolling Stone noted that Paramount+’s parent company has faced scrutiny following a lawsuit settlement with Donald Trump regarding a 60 Minutes interview and recent firings at the CBS newsmagazine, including Scott Pelley and Tanya Simon. The Hollywood Reporter noted that all UFC events are now free to watch for Paramount+ subscribers following the organization’s shift to the platform.
